Engineering

  1. 1. Senior Electrical Engineer
  • Good understanding of design and construction elements of Electrical Works. Time served on a consultancy and construction side would be beneficial.
  • Ideally chartered (although not a requirement).
  • Have evidence of working in the sectors that VVB operates in.
  • Able to undertake temporary, enabling and permanent works designs.
  • Able to manage works teams either directly or via a works manager/supervisor.
  • Able to specify and procure equipment and plant through liaison with suppliers and main contractors.
  • Able to review designs at various stages and comment on compliance with standards, Buildability and maintainability.
  • Able to work under pressure, and in line with requirements of the particular project (hours, overtime, location etc.)
  1. 2. Graduate/Junior Electrical Engineer
  • Good degree from a recognised university (by IET)
  • Desire to succeed in the construction industry
  • Desire to become chartered and fulfil relevant CPD
  • Able to work under pressure, and in line with requirements of the particular project (hours, overtime, location etc.)
  • Will work under VVB graduate programme spending time in engineering/design, planning, estimating and commercial.
  1. 3. Senior Mechanical Engineer
  • Good understanding of design and construction elements of Mechanical Works. Time served on a consultancy and construction side would be beneficial.
  • Ideally chartered (although not a requirement).
  • Have evidence of working in the sectors that VVB operates in.
  • Able to undertake temporary, enabling and permanent works designs.
  • Able to manage works teams either directly or via a works manager/supervisor.
  • Able to specify and procure equipment and plant through liaison with suppliers and main contractors.

  1. 4. Communications Engineer
  • Good understanding of design and construction elements of Comms Works. Experience in operation of PA/VA, CCTV, Radio systems and SCADA/BMS.
  • Have evidence of working in the sectors that VVB operates in.
  • Able to undertake temporary, enabling and permanent works designs.
  • Able to manage works teams either directly or via a works manager/supervisor.
  • Able to specify and procure equipment and plant through liaison with suppliers and main contractors.
  • Able to review designs at various stages and comment on compliance with standards, Buildability and maintainability.
  • Able to work under pressure, and in line with requirements of the particular project.
  1. 5. Tunnelling Engineer
  • Good understanding of tunnelling works in the UK. Time served on variety of tunnelling techniques would be an advantage (TBM, SCL etc).
  • Can be of electrical or mechanical bias.
  • Good understanding of the plant and equipment (electrical, mechanical and comms/life safety) required to be utilised within the tunnel environment. This knowledge base is critical to success in this role.
  • Able to specify and procure equipment and plant through liaison with suppliers and main contractors.
  • Able to undertake temporary, enabling and permanent works designs.
  • Able to manage works teams either directly or via a works manager/supervisor.
  • Able to work under pressure, and in line with requirements of the particular project.
  1. 6.Commissioning Engineer
  • Responsible alongside the M&E manager for ensuring that all activities defined in the inspection and test plans have been witnessed and completed, and collation of inspection and test records and other documentary evidence
  • Manage, liaise, and action all Testing commissioning plans.
  • Develop and T&C programme with the planner and subcontractor’s.
  • Oversee all the testing and commissioning works from the subcontractor and witness subcontractor’s testing and commissioning and ensure this is complete
  • Organise Test train and any other requirements our Subcontractor’s require in terms of T&C such as asset manager witnessing and client witnessing.

 

  1. 7.Systems Assurance / Handover Engineer
  • Responsible for ensuring that documentation for handover to maintenance and operation is completed prior to substantial completion
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Contractors discharge their system integration requirements as defined in the integration plans
  • Responsible for approving the change of status of assets during commissioning and handover.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all systems are fully integrated, tested and commissioned to perform the required functionalities and all supporting documentation are produced at the handover stage
  • Responsible for ensuring the system integration activities, including sequence of commissioning, determination and scheduling of integration, testing, EMC system tests, and human factors
  • Responsible for collating and controlling closure of any outstanding items identified on the corrective action lists

 

  1. 8.Quality Assurance Engineer
  • Determining, negotiating and agreeing in-house quality procedures, standards and/or specifications
  • Assessing customer requirements and ensuring that these are met. Setting customer service standards and ensuring compiance from internal team
  • Liaison with suppliers – Specifying quality requirements of materials, ensuring manufacturing process is compliant with standards
  • Working with operating staff to establish procedures, standards, systems and procedures
  • Writing management/technical reports and customers’ charters
  • Determining client training needs
  • Acting as a catalyst for change and improvement in performance/quality
  • Directing objectives to maximise profitability
  • Recording, analysing and distributing statistical information


Commercial

  1. 9.Senior Commercial Manager
  • Reporting directly into Board and Sector management
  • Candidate needs to have a strong background in NEC contracts and other contracts. Experience of adjudications would be an advantage
  • Role overseeing role of major projects, management of all company commercial staff and liaison with Finance manager to produce relevant company commercial reports.
  • Manager required to play an active role in development of the VVB commercial team including recruitment and development.
  • Experience in working for a medium/large subcontractor essential. Experience in working for a main contractor in a senior position also desirable.
  • Experience in undertaking roles with outputs as Senior QS/commercial manager

10.  10.Senior QS/Commercial Manager

  • Reporting directly into Senior commercial manager and sector managers
  • Management of the commercial aspects of a major project or several smaller projects working with the relevant scheme project manager.
  • Detailed knowledge of NEC contracts, and have evidence of utilisation of them at a subcontractor level. – knowledge of other contracts such as JCT, CICA and IChemE would be beneficial.
  • Able to pull together applications, manage change accounts, deal with contract and final account negotiations, undertake internal audits and host external audits
  • Evidence of managing a team of QS and procurement staff.
  • Evidence of producing detailed reports of internal costs and predicted outturn costs and managing expectations at a company level accordingly.
  • Evidence of understanding project programme and managing EoT and/or acceleration claims and justification accordingly.

11. 11. Intermediate Level QS

  • Reporting directly into project commercial manager
  • Management of  a section of a major project or a smaller projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts, and have evidence of utilisation of them at a subcontractor level. – knowledge of other contracts such as JCT, CICA and IChemE would be beneficial.
  • Able to pull together applications, manage subcontractor procurement and manage change accounts.
  • Evidence of working in a team of QS and procurement staff.
  • Evidence of producing detailed reports of internal costs and predicted outturn costs.
  • Evidence of understanding project programme and managing EoT and/or acceleration claims and justification accordingly.

Ancillary positions

12.  12.M&E Planner  x  2

  • Proficient use in Primevera  P6. Utilisation of Risk management software also an advantage.
  • Preferably from an engineering background.
  • Able to chair meetings either internally or with clients and subcontracts.
  • Comfortable to visit site and undertake reviews of progress to verify site reports.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience either Rail, Airports or Road Tunnel refurbishments.
  • M&E Planning experience a key requirement although for an exceptional candidate we will consider others who are have knowledge of M&E planning.
  • NEC Contract experience
  • PRINCE 2/APM (Preferable/not essential)

13.  13.Buyer / Procurement Assistant

  • Able to work in an organised way and meet deadlines required by projects.
  • Able to make commercial decisions weighing up quotations and tender received.
  • Capable of multitasking.
  • Be a good negotiator and be capable of looking for the win win scenario. Proven experience in being the lead negotiator.
  • Have a good understanding of Electrical and Mechanical goods.
  • Capable of developing filing systems to meet the needs of project.
  • Able to prioritise work to the benefit of the company and the projects.
  • Be able to work proficiently with numbers and percentages.
  • Be competent in evaluation skills.
  • Able to manage requirements for products and services required by sites.
  • Computer literacy is important and a full understanding of Microsoft Office is essential.
  • An understanding of Sage 50 software is an advantage.
  • Able to maintain asset and plant registers.
